This morning’s stalls outside Central Library and on Clock Corner were a real success – loads of people had no idea about the library closures and the news we discovered last night – that 3,000 council employees are to be made redundant. This impacts directly on the libraries because they are very much seen as a ‘soft cut’ that doesn’t matter and nobody will miss. We’re here to tell the council otherwise! We had lots of support from people wanting to sign the petition against library closures, opening hours reductions and job losses, which you can sign online by clicking here.
Our next event is the Wheatley Library Read-In at 9:30am – 12:30pm, which should be a really busy morning. We’re publicising it widely and want to really make a noise about how wrong the council are for threatening our libraries and the great staff who work in them.
